Gediflora, a Belgian nursery that focuses for 100% on breeding and propagating chrysanthemums, wins the prestigious AIPH title 2019 ‘International Grower of the Year’. Gediflora is a family business that is a leading global player in breeding and propagating chrysanthemums.
This year, the Association of International Horticultural Producers (AIPH) organised the ‘Grower of the Year’ competition to crown horticultural companies at international level for the tenth time. Belgian chrysanthemum breeder Gediflora was nominated and on 22 January was awarded the Golden Rose in the main category and in the category of ‘young plants’.
Gediflora, a third-generation family business, focuses for 100% on breeding and propagating chrysanthemums. With sales in over 30 countries, Gediflora distributes around 80 million cuttings per year. Which means they have about 50% of the market in Europe, 30% in the USA and 40% worldwide.
As a propagator, Gediflora is constantly looking to assemble a unique and innovative range that is attractive to both growers and consumers. Their mission as a specialist is to give so-called ‘mums’ a modern and creative touch. Despite their specialisation in propagating and breeding cuttings, they also know how to tell the story behind the Belgian mums. With a strong marketing plan and the slogan ‘Be Mum, Be More’ they are succeeding in lifting the image of chrysanthemums up to a higher level amongst consumers. Belgium partner country of IPM
This recognition of a Belgian horticultural master is a wonderful crown for Belgian horticulture, which this year is aiming high as a partner country at the IPM Essen international plant fair in Germany. This is the 37th edition of this international fair that has become so eminent, but Belgian companies have been an established presence here since the very first edition. This year, around seventy Belgian companies are participating in the fair.

From all the winners of the subcategories, Gediflora was also named international ornamental grower of the year. With its unique and exclusive genetics, it is a worldwide, leading specialist in chysanthemums.", according to the jury.
